I'm Just Following Orders
I find it very hard to follow recipes. I am always thinking that whatever I am making, I can make it better by adding my own twist to it, and most of the time I am right, and you would be too, because not everyone likes things as salty or as sweet or sour. However, sometimes I take my light-on recipe approach too far and I end up screwing up the really basic things because I refuse to read, let alone follow, directions.Take for example, that up until about 10 years ago, I rarely salted my pasta water! No, not just that, I rarely salted my pasta water, and I routinely added oil! But oh no, it doesn't stop there, I would rinse the pasta as well. That is the way I saw my grandmother and my mother do it. I just didn't know any better. How could I? Oh, I could have read the directions.
I am going to make an effort to follow at least a few recipes and I will post my results here, the good and the bad, and maybe, I will see that following a recipe leads to better outcomes. But maybe I won't.
