Head to Head Pork Loin!

Frugal Fritz and I are in the midst of a pork loin cook-off!  My wasabi soaked, sesame and panko encrusted pork loin, served with asian pear kimchi and sauteed baby bok choy, shitake mushrooms over pad thai noodles.  His maple, chipotle marinated pork loin served with jalapeno peach salsa, and mexican corn bread

The ingredients for both dishes cost a little under 20$, and should serve six people quite easily.  The pork loin was on sale at my local grocery, so two-two pounders cost under 7$.  For my korean inspired recipe, all the other items were purchased in Chinatown. A trip to Chinatown is well worth it when you are seeking specialty products, not only will they be much less expensive, but you will also have a better selection of those items than at your local store.

For Fritz's Mexican menu, we were able to get most of the item at the grocery store nearby, but a few items for the Tamales were a little more difficult to find.  Lucky for us, we have a great store in the city where you can find many of the specialty Mexican ingredients like corn husks, cactus, and anejo.

So the showdown is this evening, both pork loins have been marinating overnight, and will have soaked up the flavors quite nicely by this evening.  One thing is for sure, no matter who wins, we are in for a real treat tonight
