Goodie: Kraft Extra Virgin Olive Oil Fig and Balsamic Dressing and Marinade
Being a person who prefers to make most of my foods from scratch, picking up a bottle of Vinagrette is a rare thing. I happen to thoroughly enjoy a simple dressing of Balsamic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, salt and pepper and I am good to go. However, the fig got me to try it, that, and the the fact that it was on sale for 1.99$ plus I had a 1$ off coupon. For a dollar, it was worth a try.
I was not expecting to be bowled over, I simply was hoping for something I could use once in a while for a salad, or possibly as a marinade for chicken.
The dressing itself is quite thick, and I was immediately concerned that the vinagrette would stick onto lettuce thickly as well and end up being too overpowering to really enjoy. The color is nice and dark, and it smells both sweet and acidic, which I really enjoyed.
When I am trying something for the first time, I usually stick to its original purpose, in this case, as a salad dressing. Over spring salad mix, with some sunflower seeds, it was perfectly good. I was surprised at how much you could get a taste of fig from this dressing, even though it contains fig juice, but no actual fig pieces. For a simple salad, this dressing gets a pass from me.
Of course, a salad is one thing, but would it work as a marinade? Answer, to come shortly in the form of a recipe - "QuickStyle Chicken".
